PHOTOGRAPHY CALL: Visual stories of female entrepreneurs

Are you a female photographer, either professional or emerging artist?  Or a woman who runs a business, social enterprise or craft?  If so, Invest for the Future (IFTF) is putting out an open call for a curated show featuring portraits by female photographers of female entrepreneurs for an online and travelling exhibition and coffee table book to be distributed at the next IFTF International Women’s Day conference in March 2014.  IFTF is seeking professional photographs that not only feature the women owners themselves, but also the tools of their trade to convey their entrepreneurial story in a creative and artistic manner.  IFTF believes pictures can unite, and seeks photography that demonstrates both country and individual-specific themes and universal women’s issues.

Subject - Irena Sophia, Artist, Croatia taken by Photographer - Tina Lee Odinsky-Zec
There is no entry fee to join, and the show will be curated by a panel of professional artists and women’s issue leaders, so participation can lead to a resume-builder for photographers at no cost to themselves, and a chance to win prizes such as free online art classes and a chance to attend regional travel and training programs.  Curatorial board is led by IFTF Virtual Curator Leah Kohlenberg of The Roaming Studio, a professional artist and photographer who has shown her photography and paintings in New York, Budapest, Armenia, and Croatia.  The Roaming Studio (www.theroamingstudio.com), offers online art classes to art students all around the world.
Contest requirements: Photographers, please send no more than 3-5 low resolution j-peg images toleah@theroamingstudio.com, including your name, age, artist biography (no more than 1-2 paragraphs, please), and photo captions describing each photo, including full name of the person(s) photographed, when and where the photographed was taken, business name and industry including any other relevant information about the photo subject as well as the model release form.  While a low resolution version will be submitted for review the original photograph should be in a high resolution format such as 300 dpi and longer side of the photo should be at least 15 cm (5,9 inches), suitable for printing.
Submission deadline: by popular demand the project and submissions will be accepted on an ongoing basis throughout 2014.

IFTF Women's Photography Show, 2013: Daily Life in South and Eastern Europe and Eurasia

Welcome to the Invest for the Future Women’s Photography Show, featuring photographs by women from around Southern and Eastern Europe and Eurasia. The photographs in the show made the final cute based on their aesthetic qualities and their ability to show daily non-denominational life in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Turkey, in ways that both surprise us and deepen our understanding of this part of the world.

“This was an incredibly edifying show to put together,” said curator Leah Kohlenberg, of The Roaming Studio (www.theroamingstudio.com). “It was amazing to see everyday life through the lens of women, from an Azerbaijani teenager to a Romanian 20-something artist traveling through Turkey to an American senior citizen Peace Corps volunteer in Armenia. It weaves such a rich and multifaceted tapestry of how our lives are both the same and different, how we are unique, and how we are connected.”
Four photographers were selected as best in show, including:
Andrada Damian (aka Damianoskaia), age 27, Romania, for “A worker from a construction site sharing his dessert/Izmir, Turkey 2010.”
Kristina Harutyunova, age 25, Armenia for “The Zoo/Yerevan, Armenia, 2011”
Dina Oganova, age 25, Georgia for “Tako with Her Brother Luka/ Burnati Village, Georgia, 2009”
Beata Lechowicz, 45, Poland for “Casino, Marriott Hotel/Warsaw, Poland, 2013”
Invest for the Future (www.investforthefuture.biz) provides a support network and best knowledge for female entrepreneurs throughout Southern and Eastern Europe and Eurasia. There are three types of support offered: Learning, Networking and Earning.
